Position Summary Information

Position Summary

This position is responsible for performing general, routine, standardized custodial care and services for the Student Activities Center. This position will primarily work an evening and/or overnight schedule that may include some weekends, holidays, and schedule adjustments depending on facility events, activities, and scheduling needs. This position works a maximum of 25 hours per week. The incumbent must be a self-starter, trustworthy, responsible, and be able to work independently and at a moderate to rigorous pace. Must be physically able to stand on feet for several hours during the shift; bend, lift, and carry up to 50lbs; and use general cleaning products, chemicals, and equipment. This position reports to the Facility Manager of the Student Activities Center and is a member of a team designed to offer excellent customer service to all patrons.

Qualifications

• Valid Georgia Driver’s License required.

• Some experience of related physical work experience required; experience in higher education or commercial setting preferred.

• Basic carpentry and minor maintenance/ mechanical experience is preferred.

• Must be able to perform duties requiring push/pull activity, hand/finger coordination, constant repetitive motion of write, arm, & shoulder; reach, climb, balance, crouch, twist, crawl, & kneel; work with chemicals, dust, fumes, & odors associated with custodial work.

• Must be able to perform constant, intense physical labor; must be able to move and use equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis; must be able to wear safety and protective equipment as needed.

Minimum Education Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities Summary

• Provide housekeeping services within and around the Student Activities Center by performing duties such as dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, wet-mopping, carpet cleaning, surface and window washing, and removal of trash in the all areas of the facility. Additionally, blowing off or sweeping the sidewalks near the building, removing trash in the area adjacent to the facility and parking lots.
• Cleans and restocks restroom facilities and the locker-room to include cleaning toilet and shower stalls, sinks, drains, walls and floors, etc.. This includes regularly maintaining the space after use.
• Conducts specialized and deep cleaning of regularly used spaces, including facility walls, glass, woodwork, railing, door panels, concrete flooring, and sills.
• Cleans fitness equipment; assists with cleaning, re-aligning and storing facility furniture and equipment.
• Provides custodial support for internal and external major events held in the facility. Assists with event set-up and tear-down.
• Submits requests for cleaning and general use supplies; maintains supply inventory.
• Uses heavy equipment to wax floors, clean carpet and furniture, and clean locker rooms.
• Secure the facility by opening and closing as required, provide great customer service to facility patrons and guests at all times.
• Assists with special projects and tasks as assigned by Supervisor.
• Participates in professional and staff development events, programs, and activities; performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of operation and use of equipment and tools used in the care and cleaning of buildings; knowledge of best custodial services practices, techniques, and procedures.

• Ability to use basic hand and power tools in making minor maintenance repairs and maintaining grounds and walks.

• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
