Position Summary Information

Position Summary

Reporting to the Dean of Students in the Division of Student Affairs, the Coordinator of Veterans Resource Center provides overall coordination of the Center and the services to assist active military, veterans, and dependents in making transitions into higher education. Provides wide range of educational outreach, support, and referral services while collaborating with individuals and organizations both on and off campus.

Qualifications

• Some experience working with veteran or military population, preferably in higher education; prefer veteran or family member of veteran

• Experience in writing or collaboration in writing accepted and funded grant(s)

Minimum Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in related field preferred (for example, higher education, student affairs, management, social services, counseling)

Responsibilities Summary

• Communicate and collaborate with University community to promote and implement military and veteran student retention and success efforts and to advocate for military/veteran student population
• Lead initiatives to identify specific needs of military and veteran students including additional support service needs; collaborate with or advise Student Veterans Association
• Organize, market, implement, and host targeted programs and events for active-duty military and veterans
• Refer prospective and current students to appropriate University departments and resources; maintain current and thorough knowledge of department functions and available services and resources
• Develop data and reports such as number of military and veterans enrolled, their use of GI Bill funds, and their academic progression
• Assist in research and development of grant applications and other external funding proposals related to veterans initiatives
• Develop and maintain relationships with local and state military and veterans organizations and University System of Georgia
• Work with appropriate University staff to maintain accurate, up-to-date website information and printed promotional materials

• Proficiency in concise, error-free writing
• Ability to develop and deliver presentations that accomplish specific objectives
• Collection, organization and reporting of data needed for planning, accountability, tracking, publicity and other situations
• Proven ability to develop and sustain collaborative relationships with on-campus departments and off-campus organizations
• Ability to develop and execute projects related to marketing, programming, and funding
• Ability to establish appropriate goals and work with minimal supervision to accomplish them
