Position Summary Information
Position Summary | The Archival Studies Program in the College of Information and Mathematical Sciences at Clayton State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track graduate faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor starting August 1, 2018. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience. THE PROGRAM The Master of Archival Studies Program trains individuals to be archivists who can curate comprehensive, trustworthy collections of records that merit long-term preservation. Graduates from the program will be well-grounded in theoretical knowledge and practical skills of archives. They will understand the impact of technology on the profession and will have the knowledge and skills to work with information technologists and to manage digital information. They will know how to work in a rapidly changing environment, finding innovative solutions to the challenges of digital archives. The program began in 2010 and has strong support from a large community of professional archivists in the state who assist as part-time faculty, provide internships, and are willing to work with students on specific projects in courses. The program began offering online courses in 2011, and went completely online in Fall 2012. Because the Master of Archival Studies is an online program, students may live outside the Atlanta area. The Archival Studies program is presently a graduate program and has imminent plans to expand to include undergraduate offerings. For more information about the program, see www.clayton.edu/mas/. THE UNIVERSITY Clayton State University is located in a beautiful lakeside setting fifteen minutes southeast of downtown Atlanta. The University currently offers nine master’s degree programs and 39 baccalaureate degree programs, with an enrollment of 7000 students. The University has been named one of the “Top 100 Workplaces in Atlanta” by the Atlanta Journal Constitution for six consecutive years and in 2017 was named one of The Chronicle of Higher Education’s Great Colleges to Work For. Minimum Education Requirements | Master of Archival Studies, Master of Library Science with archival concentration, MS in Library and Information Science with archival concentration, or Master’s degree in a subject area related to archival work with certification by the Academy of Certified Archives or the Institute for Certified Records Managers, and experience/training in digital archives. |
Responsibilities Summary | The individual will teach Archival Studies in both synchronous and asynchronous online environments, with the possibility of summer courses. Course topics will include archives, records management, and archival technology. Because the program emphasizes digital archives, applicants must have a strong background in working with electronic records. Strengths in records management; reference, access, and outreach, and in digital preservation and curation are desirable. In addition, the individual will be expected to be active in research and scholarly activity as appropriate for the discipline, and to engage in service to the university. The position is based in Morrow, Georgia, fifteen miles southeast of Atlanta. |
