Position Summary

The Dept of Maintenance is currently hiring for one (1) Skilled Craftsperson II, responsible for performing highly skilled manual work involving installation, alterations, maintenance and repair tasks in electrical, HVAC and plumbing areas, utility meter readings and assisting all trades workers in the maintenance area. The position will be responsible for any other assigned maintenance repair duties on the campus and provide back up support in absence of technical maintenance staff. This position plays a key role to support the building operations team on the campus. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Building Operations in Facilities Management department.

The applicant offered this position will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment drug test.


• Valid Georgia Driver’s License required.
CFC certification and State License preferred.
• Boilers repair/troubleshoot experience preferred.
• Several years of experience preferred.

Minimum Education Requirements

High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities Summary

• Troubleshoot and diagnose all problems with HVAC-R, climate controls, pneumatic control system, electrical and electronic related equipment; order and install replacement parts.
• Performs routine and preventive maintenance on related MEP equipment, EMS (energy management systems).
• Maintain and repair chillers, boilers, air handlers, pumps, motors, fan coil units, etc.
• Prepare reports, order parts, and complete daily work sheets on all work performed.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment.
• On Call Duty: This position will be an on call rotational position and be available in the event of an emergency.
• May assist skilled trade workers with repairs to University facilities.
• This position requires the employee to be available in the event of an emergency.
• Will serve as a backup for the absent staff.
• Coordinates inventory of maintenance supplies.
• Monitors and follow up on assigned work orders for status update and timely completion.
• Communicates with administrators and supervisors regarding service need changes, customer service levels, and equipment needs.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of proper operation and use of tools and equipment required for this position.
• Ability to work within a team.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to perform constant, intense physical labor; move & use equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Must be able to perform duties requiring push/pull activity, hand/finger coordination, constant repetitive motion of wrist, arm & shoulder; reach, balance, crouch, twist, crawl, & kneel; work with dust, fumes and odors associated with a mechanical/electrical/plumbing (MEP) environment.
• Must be able to wear safety and protective equipment as needed.
• Ability to work from an extension ladder/lift.
• Ability to work unsupervised.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
• Experience and knowledge of building services systems, and functions. Knowledge of maintenance supplies, techniques, design and implementation.
