Position Summary

The Department of Chemistry and Physics in the College of Arts and Sciences at Clayton State University is seeking applicants for a Lecturer of Chemistry. The position is an academic year, non-tenure-track appointment that reports to the Head of the Department of Chemistry and Physics. The successful candidate will be expected to begin on August 1, 2018. Salary will be commensurate with experience and competitive with comparable programs. In compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, proof of authorization to work in the U.S. will be required at the time of hire.

Qualifications

Required qualifications: A successful candidate will have a doctoral degree in Chemistry (ABD candidates will be considered). Other required qualifications include the ability to teach organic chemistry, biochemistry, and general chemistry lectures and labs, and excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Desirable qualifications: A successful candidate will demonstrate successful college teaching experience, experience with diverse student populations, experience mentoring undergraduate students in research projects, experience in and ability to provide leadership in using technology in teaching and/or implementing courses using the internet. Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in the areas of biochemistry and organic chemistry. A commitment by the candidate to diversity is highly recommended.

Minimum Education Requirements

For the lecturer (non-tenure-track) appointment the candidate must have a doctorate in Chemistry (ABD candidates will be considered).

Responsibilities Summary

• Teach introductory chemistry courses.
• Participate in service to Department, School, University and community.
• Serve as a mentor for undergraduate students.
