Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for all aspects of student housing apartment and suite repairs, preventative maintenance and grounds upkeep.

The applicant offered this position may be subject to a pre-employment drug test.


EPA Universal certificate preferred. If selected for this position and the EPA Universal Certificate has not been achieved, candidate must acquire the EPA Universal certificate in the first six months of employment.

One or more years of related full-time working in university/college housing maintenance preferred or closely related experience.

Responsibilities Summary

The Maintenance Tech will:
1. Diagnosis and repair HVAC systems.
2. Diagnosis and repair kitchen and laundry appliances.
3. Diagnosis and repair plumbing and electrical issues.
4. Perform carpentry repairs and paint apartment and suite interiors/exteriors.
5. Handle assigned maintenance request and repairs in a timely and accurate manner.
6. Adhere to department preventive maintenance program to minimize emergency and service repairs.
7. Perform inspections of HVAC units and change filters as required.
8. Maintain the physical condition of University Housing facilities according to operating and safety standards.
9. Participate in the maintenance on-call rotation, responds to emergency situations.
10. Work during Opening, Closing and Turn and occasional evenings when necessary.
11. Inspect buildings and property features to minimize emergency repairs and service repairs
12. Assist with maintaining grounds and enhancing curb appeal.
13. Maintain professional and positive relationships with co-workers, residents, parents, faculty and contractors.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of tools, techniques, and terminology used in the operation of electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and painting trades.

Must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact with diverse constituents, including residents, parents, faculty, staff and contractors; be able to work under pressure and handle stressful situations; strong customer service skills and attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
