Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Campus Life, Student Organizations will provide direct support to the registered student organizations and advisors on campus. This position will assist with campus wide programs sponsored by the Department of Campus Life and assist with the management of the Student Activities Center, Student Organization Suite. This position will report to the Associate Director of the Department of Campus Life; must be available to work extended workdays, weekends, and holidays.

Minimum of one year professional experience designing, implementing and assessing programs; providing administrative support; working with a college student population preferred.

Minimum Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.

Responsibilities Summary

• Provide administrative oversight and support to the Student Organization function including developing student organization leadership and training workshops; maintaining the Student Organization section of the website; developing, updating and ensuring adherence to university policies; maintaining knowledge of the student organization calendar and potential conflicts; and creating reports that analyze data and summarize major events/programs.
• Advise the Student Programming Board (Campus Events Council) in planning, developing, and implementing programs for the campus community. Assist with managing the Programming Board budget.
• Coordinate all aspects of the Student Organization RESET recognition process including developing, editing and enforcing registration policies; training student organization leaders on the registration process and benefits of student organization membership; and training Advisors.
• Plan and coordinate Student Organization initiatives such as the Student Involvement Fair and Organization Showcase, Holiday Celebration, Lunch and Lead workshops, conferences and retreats, summer programs and advising the Council of Student Organization Leaders (CSOL).
• Coordinate student participation in major University initiatives such as commencement; Open House; Homecoming; Welcome Week; Orientation and other programs as they arise.
• Manage the Student Organization Suite to create an environment that enhances and supports student life and the campus experience. This includes monitoring computer use and developing creative uses for effectively maximizing the space.
• Assist the budget office with coordinating student organization financial paperwork and managing the Student Fees Advisory Board (i.e. committee participants, coordinating student organization presentations, budget application trainings, etc.).
• General duties such as assisting with office coverage and support staff supervision; assisting with evening, late-night, and weekend programs; providing policy feedback and other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Clayton State University general policies and procedures, computer software operation such as Windows, Adobe Design products and Microsoft Office, etc. General understanding of student development theory and current trends in student engagement and development.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication. Mentoring students and advising student organizations. Designing and administering assessment tools.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing; proven ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds; proven ability to multitask; ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making.
