Position Summary Information

Position Summary

The Center for Academic Success (CAS) seeks a Center Supervisor who will assist in the oversight of The CAS and It’s student employees during evening hours, on weekends, and during special events. This position is temporary part time and is limited to a max of 25 hours per week. This individual must have an aptitude for doing independent work, providing creative solutions, and making smart decisions.

Supervision Received:
Supervisor reports directly to the Tutor Coordinator who will support the supervisor in performing a variety of work within established CAS policies and procedures. Supervisor will receive detailed instructions on new projects and assignments and be evaluated regarding their ability to fulfil their job description.

Supervision Given:
Supervisor will be responsible for the oversight of all CAS student employees.

Work Schedule:
Supervisor must be available to work in the evenings, on weekends, and during CAS special events including, but not limited to: Late Night Study sessions (Sunday evening from 8pm to 12:00am midnight), Study by the Lake, International Tutor Appreciation Week, and Tutoring Blitz.

Background Check:
The selected candidate will be required to pass a criminal history background check. The applicant offered this position may be subject to a pre-employment drug test.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience speaking and interacting with persons of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
• Perform with frequent interruptions and/or distractions.
• Must be adaptable to changes in workload and adjust priorities as circumstances dictate.

Minimum Education Requirements

Education
o Must have received a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
OR
o Must be currently registered at Clayton State University as a graduate student.
- Graduate student must currently have and maintain at least a 3.0 overall cumulative GPA while in position.

Responsibilities Summary

• Aid CAS professional staff with supervision and management of student staff (Tutors and Front Desk Assistants) during evenings and weekends.
• Maintain the CAS as a positive and professional environment.
• Monitor tutor performance, make appropriate job decisions that comply with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, and report concerns to the Tutor Coordinator.
• Ensure that CAS employees and students are treated with dignity and respect.
• Fulfill responsibilities as directed by professional staff.
• Communicate with CAS patrons to insure their satisfaction with the center.
• Support CAS staff and patrons with their needs and/or requests.
• Assist with set-up for CAS events and workshops.
• Assist with data entry projects and clerical duties as needed.
• Responsible for the opening and closing of the CAS as required.
• Attend and participate in staff meetings to report updates and address any actual, or potential, problems.
• Provide input to event planning, assessments, and/or surveys.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Vocational Skills
o Strong skill and proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (i.e. Word, Excel, Powerpoint).

Analytical Skills
o Experience with systematically arranging and organizing collected data into groups or categories according to established criteria.

Communication Skills
o An effective public speaker with public speaking experience.
o An ability to provide excellent customer service.
o An ability to speak clearly and distinctly over the phone.

Interpersonal Skills
o Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with CAS staff and patrons.
o Experience managing and/or supervising individuals in a professional or academic setting.
o Ability to interact appropriately with CAS patrons for different purposes and in different contexts.

Self-Management Skills
o Perform repetitive work according to set procedures and guidelines.
o Prioritize assignments to complete work in a timely manner.
o Work independently and follow through on assigned tasks with minimal direction.
o Must be mature and self-disciplined.
