Position Summary

The Residence Life Summer Intern will provide support for the Residence Life function at Clayton State University. The duration of this internship will be 10 or less weeks. The intern will be paid $12 an hour and will work 40 hours per week. The intern receive practical experience in the areas of Resident Assistant co-supervision, summer conference coordination, fall staff-training development and planning, residential life operations creation and planning, and on-call crisis response. This appointment begins in May and continues through July (specific dates are negotiable).

Intern must be a current graduate student with previous residence hall experience: higher education interest preferred, but not required. Intern must possess strong self-motivation and capacity for self-directed work. Intern must clear a national background check prior to start date. Additional employment during the term of appointment is prohibited.

Responsibilities Summary

Residence Life Projects – Responsible for assisting in the planning and preparation of fall RA Training and Graduate Assistant Training, assisting with revamping the RA programming model, responsible for creating and revamping forms and documents to supplement the Clayton State residential education program. Other special projects to be determined based upon department need and intern professional interests.

Supervision– Responsible for the co-supervision of summer Resident Assistants, including overseeing scheduling and time-off requests, implementing tasks, and reporting workflow updates to the Assistant Director.

Crisis Response and Management – Serve in summer on-call duty rotation. Provide advice and guidance to student staff regarding residence hall and resident crises. Respond to student emergencies.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to multi-task and set priorities.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Knowledge of residential life functions and best practices.
• Proficiency with MS Office products and the ability to learn new computer software programs.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
