Position Summary Information

Position Summary

We are seeking a web designer to support our application and marketing team by building out clean, scalable, accessible and readable HTML5 and CSS3 and have experience with web graphics. This designer will have a high-standard of quality and knowledge of cross-browser implementation.

Applicants should have experience building out websites from scratch and should understand higher-level development concepts like “progressive enhancement” and “responsive design.” We want an individual who is high-energy, self-motivated, and passionate about web design.

The applicant offered this position may be subject to a pre-employment drug test.


• Minimum of 3 years related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
MUST have a sample portfolio to be considered.

Minimum Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Web Design, Web Development or related field.

Responsibilities Summary

• Design and building out of clean, scalable, accessible and readable websites and sample sites, incorporating industry best practices. This includes understanding of web architecture, user experience design and ADA accessibility compliance standards.
• Use graphic design tools to make site banners, backgrounds and other page elements – digital retouching and image editing
• Keep up to date with recent technological and software developments
• Continue to develop skills and expertise in appropriate software/programming languages such as HTML and Javascript
• Troubleshooting, testing and ensuring sites are accessible in multiple browsers and that all web applications work correctly.
• Ensure that web content is current.
• Demonstrates creativity while ensuring compliance with University visual identity guidelines and brand standards.
• Work in collaboration with marketing and communications team to establish priorities and timelines to meet projects deadlines.
• Collaborate with teams and partners across campus to discuss requirements and/or project progress to achieve their goals and determine the most appropriate format and design for specific web project needs.
• Demonstrating and receiving feedback about draft sites

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of HTML, XML and CSS
• Experience integrating front-end interactions using JavaScript, ActionScript and jQuery
• Knowledge of cross-browser implementation
• Knowledge of closed source CMS platforms
• Experience developing in responsive design across various devices
• Experience in UX and visual design
• Experience with the Adobe Design Suite, including Photoshop and Illustrator
SEO (search engine optimization), marketing and social media
• Attention to detail with strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to come up with creative solutions to problems
• Desire to learn new skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects
• Excellent organizational skills
• Demonstrate initiative, is a self-starter and completes tasks with minimum supervision
