Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Undergraduate Nursing Program – the Nursing Laboratory Coordinator works collaboratively with nursing faculty to integrate laboratory, high-fidelity simulation equipment and other resources into teaching-learning activities across the curriculum. The Coordinator promotes efficient use of lab space, time and equipment.

Previous experience working in academic nursing laboratory environment. Highly proficient in operating, repairing, calibrating and programming laboratory and high-fidelity simulation equipment. Advanced knowledge in running, and collaborating with nursing professionals to create simulation applications and nursing scenarios.

Responsibilities Summary

• Develops laboratory teaching schedule each semester
• Maintains laboratory environment to assure lab security, cleanliness, and safety
• Establishes policies and procedures to guide student and faculty use of laboratory spaces
• Ensures all labs contain necessary equipment and supplies to enable faculty to utilize lab effectively for teaching activities
• Operates, repair, calibrate and program high-fidelity simulation equipment
• Programs simulation applications and scenarios in coordination with nursing curriculum outcomes
• Monitors lab equipment and performs routine assessments including preventive maintenance to ensure proper functionality
• Identifies new technologies, receives input from faculty and submits recommendations to department head concerning integration into lab activities
• Orients faculty and students to lab equipment through use of seminars and tutorial videos
• Coordinates requests and purchases of supplies and equipment
• Receives, audits, and stores supplies in designated locations, and updates lab directories
• Implements and coordinates standardized patient program by recruiting and training actors to provide students with realistic assessment simulation scenarios
• Assists in the development of clinical simulation lab student guidelines, grading rubrics, and related documents
• Submits written and verbal reports to program directors and department head at conclusion of each semester
• Provides lab tours to prospective students and visitors as requested and promotes positive image of lab facilities

• Effective interpersonal and communication skills
• Basic knowledge of computer programming and software, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint
• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, staff, and parties outside of the university
• Basic understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and clinical nomenclature
• Knowledge of simulation equipment hardware and software
• Ability to work independently, problem-solve and make decisions effectively
• Ability to work well as a member of a team in demanding college environment
• Ability to work well with a diverse student population including people of all ages from academically, culturally, and economically diverse backgrounds
